Walthamstow Wassail is coming!

  • The Vestry House Museum Vestry rd Walthamstow E17 9NH United Kingdom (map)

To bring in cheer for the new year of 2019, come and join the Walthamstow Wassail.

Hello lovely Wassailers,

our ninth Walthamstow Wassail will take place on Sunday 6th January 2019 at the Vestry House Museum.

A tradition that has spanned many years whereby we sing good luck for our Walthamstow harvest in 2019 to the trees, bees and our neighbours.

We learn Wassail songs to a theme each year with Lucy, this year the Malpas Wassail to the theme of pockets and purses in the family craft workshop. Many of the Wassail songs mention the use of pockets or purses, as house-holders gave gifts of “a few pence” to children as they came round wishing their neighbours a Happy New Year.

We will be printmaking on our wassail purses ready to spread good cheer.

Doors open at 1.30 for the wassail purse printmaking. Then learn wassail songs at 2pm together with the wassail part singers. More details can be found here: https://walthamstowwassail.wordpress.com/

Free Family workshop. Donations are welcome.
